A Man Escaped

Synopsis

Bresson’s minimalist masterpiece wrings heart-stopping suspense from an accumulation of small details as it painstakingly chronicles the planning and execution of a French resistance leader’s daring escape from a German prison during World War II. Based on a true story and informed by the director’s own time as a POW, A Man Escaped is a perfect blend of genre and Bresson’s singular sensibility.
