French films at the Cannes Film Festival 2018

Many highly anticipated French films will receive their world premiere screenings at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

French cinema remains, year after year, a major reference on the world cinema map, and Cannes maintains its role as a launching pad – be it for international or French cinema – for the year ahead. The festival is also, once again, the sounding board for French co-productions (with around thirty selected this year at Cannes), very important on a global scale. The greatest film festival in the world is hence the ideal place to take stock of this French presence more open and vibrant than ever.

This year, the artistic director of the festival seems to have opted for younger filmmakers and renewal, by choosing, in particular, two second features (Yann Gonzalez and Éva Husson) among the 5 French films presented in Official Competition.
