Rust and Bone

Oops, just missed it! This film is no longer available on Netflix streaming or DVD.  If Valentine's day still has you on a high of emotions, go deeper with Jacques Audiard's Rust and Bone (De rouille et d’os, 2012), starring the beautiful Marion Cotillard as the broken-hearted whale trainer.

On what appears to be just a normal day at work, an orca turns on his trainers at the Marineland park and Stéphanie (Marion Cotillard) wakes up in a hospital bed; unfortunately, it's without legs. It's a long, hard road after this tragedy, but ultimately leads her to self discovery.

Her saving grace is rough around the edges, Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts), a boxer who has recently gained custody of his 5-year-old son. Stephanie meets Ali at a nightclub and it's clear they both have some fight in them. Their romance is raw, tumultuous and honest.

Gripping and poignant, this story about two broken people is probably the best French film you can watch on Netflix.
