Monsieur Lazhar

NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE TO STREAM ON NETFLIX. NOW AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX DVD. Philippe Falardeau directs Monsieur Lazhar, a film governed by the heart and colored with innocence and the purity of childhood, is touching and heartbreaking, if not a trifle sappy.

After an unnerving tragedy occurs at a Quebecois elementary school, a saving grace arrives in the form of an Algerian teacher. Monsieur Lazhar (Mohamed Fellag) who comes from recent and horrific misfortune himself, joins his young students in experiencing grief, growth, and warrior- like strength.

The classroom is filled with poignant and unexpectedly mature performances by the children he reaches, namely Sophie Nélisse (Alice L'Écuyer, who landed a lead role in The Book Thief!) and Simon (Émilien Néron). To be reminded of that mentor that changed your life, and cared so much it hurt, switch on Monsieur Lazhar on Netflix.
