Quand on a 17 ans (Being 17)
Oops, just missed it! This film is no longer available on Netflix streaming or DVD. This week, FrenchFlicks relished in André Téchiné's gem, Being 17, (Quand on a 17 ans). Featured on Netflix, the film portrays a young love that is raw and rocky, and is most importantly, not the typical romance you've seen 100 times before.
In this story, an escalating journey of emotion begins with two high schoolers who couldn't be more opposite. Differences in class, aggression and bullying ensue between Damien (Kacey Mottet Klein), a shy and sweet color in the lines kinda guy, and his mysterious tormentor, (Corentin Fila).
An extra sense of magic comes along in the form of Sandrine Kiberlain, Damien's mother, an important part of both boys' lives, whose charm and understanding offers a stark contrast between the volatility that mingles with desire between the two protagonists.
Love can be complicated. Especially when you're 17.
