Louise, an old woman, sits on the beach at a French resort town enjoying the last days of summer and writing in her diary. But when she misses the last train home, she winds up having to stay there alone through the winter. She builds her own cabin, grows her own vegetables, goes for long walks, philosophizes with her diary, and finds Pepper, a lost dog who shares her conversation and solitude. Laguionie’s endearing animated film weaves together a moving story of how being left behind forces us to confront the things and people we have left behind.
