One could paint a mansion with the amount of blood that gushes out of Coralie Fargeat's almost unbearably visceral film detailing the baroque vengeance unleashed by a young woman who is assaulted and left for dead in the desert. While Revenge is inspired by and pays tribute to grindhouse classics with its visuals and relentless score, Fargeat also subversively offers a beyond-extreme representation of female rebirth, creating a new kind of female superhero along the way.
